Intention to close part of Strickland Road at Porky Creek Bridge

At its meeting of 18 September 2007 Council determined, in the interest of public safety and because of lack of use, to exercise its powers under Section 14 of the Local Government (Highways) Act 1982 to close part of Stricklands Road at Porky Creek Bridge.

Interested persons may lodge an objection in writing in regard to Council's intention to close the road. Submissions are to be directed to the General Manager, King Island Council P O Box 147 Currie, 7256.

Submissions are to be lodged by close of business 24 April 2008 and will be directed to the Magistrates Court (Administrative Appeals Division) for a determination upon closure of the submission period.

King Island Airport Users

Following the introduction of the Aviation Transport Security Act in Marcy 2005 all persons entering the airside of the King Island Airport must have an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) from 1 January 2006.

An authorised representative fo the aircraft operator must escort all passengers disembarking and embarking an aircraft.

All persons meeting an aircraft to forward or collect greight must make arrangements with the individual operators if they wish to access airside.

Effective from 1 January 2006 it is a Commonwealth offence for unauthorised individuals to access the airside of the King Island Airport.

Waste Oil

Council is presently operating a waste oil disposal facility, located at the Council's Works Depot. The waste oil is then transfered to the Grassy Swimming Pool. Council is requesting persons wishing to dispose of waste oil to contact Council on 6462 1177 to arrange a date and time.

Waste Management

Please be advised that the King Island Council will only accept large quantites of inert waste at the Charles Street Refuse Disposal Site by application only.

Any person/s requiring the disposal of inert waste, greater than 1 cubic metre, are required to complete an application form, available at Council offices, five working days prior to date of disposal.

Council encourages the disposal of green waste 'on-site' by various methods rather than disposal at the Charles Street site.

Power Price Parity

The Council in partnership with Flinders Council commissioned the Bass Strait Island Electricity Supply - July 2004 report to investigate issues associated with the electricity supply. Power price parity for the Bass Strait Island's has been an issue for a number of years and is included within the Partnership Agreement with the State Government. Power price parity also features prominently in the Strategic Plan 2004-2009. This report was presented to the Premier in August 2004 and a copy provided to Hydro Tasmania. The Council is progressing the issues with Hydro Tasmania and will continue to advocate the power price parity issue with the State Government.
