KING ISLAND PORTS FEASIBILITY STUDY

A feasibility study has recently been completed for the King Island Ports.  The primary goal of the King Island Feasibilty Study was to undertake the preparation of a feasibility assessment of the future expansion of the existing Grassy Port, on King Island, constructed in the 1970's.  The assessment has focussed on a 20-year time period from 2009-2028.  The overarching critical issue associated with expanding the port facilities at Grassy Port is that after 2012, the Sea Road 'Mersey' is scheduled for replacement with a larger vessel, which will no longer be able to access the Grassy Port.  The future for scheduled shipping activities, including logistics and containerised trade into major ports (e.g. Melbourne Webb Dock and Devonport) will then be at risk unless the port is upgraded.  The funding partnership for the completion of the feasibilty study was King Island Ports Corporation, King Island Council and  the Australian Government.  A copy of the King Island Ports Feasibility Study King%20Island%20Ports%20Feasibility%20Study (14806 kb) please download.
