Recycling

Due to isolation factors and the cost of freight it is currently not feasible to offer full recycling services on the island. However, Council separates green matter and offers battery and aluminium can recycling stations, which is management by the local Lions Club.

The King Island Lions Club have been collecting batteries and aluminium cans for a number of years. Funds raised by the Lions Club from recycling aluminium metals, and batteries is spent on community facilities. Council is currently working with the Lions Club to overcome difficulties in recycling batteries. Aluminium cans and batteries can continue to be placed at Charles Street at the sign posted location. Future collection points for recycling of aluminium cans may be provided in Currie and Grassy. A clothing bin is located behind the Currie Library.
