Water

Council provides a potable town water supply for residents within the Currie and Grassy townships. Council has recently completed stage one of the Currie Water Treatment Project. This has involved the treatment (disinfection) of the town water supply.

Water and ocean outfall samples are provided for testing on a regular basis. These water results are available for the public and the community is informed when contaminations occurs.

Council continues to investigate alternative water supplies and seek funding to further treat the water supply in both townships. If you have any concerns about your water please contact the Director of Environmental Services on 64 621177.

Most properties are fitted with water meters at the stop tap, which is usually near the front boundary. Residents should ensure that the area around the meter is kept clear to allow access for the meter reader. Residents are responsible for ensuring that the meter and its cover are not damaged by activities such as lawn mowing or vehicular traffic on their property.

A property's annual allowance for water is based on the water rate paid for that property. Excess charges apply for amounts in excess of this. Council maintains the water system as far as the water meter. Any leaks or other maintenance problems should be reported to Council with full details of the location and nature of the problem.
