Shannon Shipwreck Walk

  • Gather food and drink for a picnic lunch.
  • For a full day out plan a barbeque dinner at Penny's Lagoon. Take barbeque beads.
  • Covered picnic spots with toilets are at Penny's Lagoon and Cape Wickham.

Once you go over Pass River you'll be "up North", home of the Bulldogs footy team.
No shops, no servos but choose your beach experience from a surfing destination of world renown at Martha Lavinia, miles of shorebird habitat, maritime heritage sites and great beach fishing spots. Terry Perry's shop in the main street can provide bait, gear and local fishing information.

Plan at least a day for the North.

The other walks on this trail are:
Penny's Lagoon Loop Walk and Cape Wickham to Victoria Cove

A walk to the picnic seat at the lookout is highly recommended. The first part of the walk is along a relatively flat path, with fine views. Steps lead up to the lookout. From the lookout follow the path down to the beach where it is necessary to cross the Yellow Rock River. Depths will vary between 1 and 80 cm, depending on the weather and tides. The boiler of the Shannon shipwreck is partially buried at the shoreline.
